Can HRIS auto-update changes made on the payroll system?

I want to invest in providing my HR team with all the necessary resources that can make their processes more efficient and increase their productivity. I want to integrate an HIRS system with the payroll system in place so they don't spend too much time on payroll admin. Does an HRIS system automatically update changes made in the payroll system, or must they manually update changes in employee data?
