What steps should I consider when picking a payroll date?
Asked 2 years ago
I run a startup company, and I have decided to hire employees since the business is growing. I have also started setting up my payroll system, and now my current challenge is how I should set up the company's payroll schedule. Can I just pick any pay period for my employees, or are there any specific regulations?

First, you'll want to check your state's regulations to see if there is a requirement for pay date frequency. You also want to ensure that on the date you pick, you'll have enough cash to cover the expense. Some business owners consider their employees when deciding. Hourly employees may prefer weekly pay, whereas salaried employees may prefer semimonthly.
